Dumpster Divin

I had to share my awsome dumpster diving finds with everyone. Brett and I were driving Isaac to school the other week and drove past a house with a dumpster bin in the driveway. I saw a chair sticking out and mentioned it to Brett, so after dropping off Isaac we drove back by. I made Brett go ask at the door about the chair (it was in their front driveway after all) and a lady came out and took him into the garage. They came out with another chair, one she had stripped and started to reupholster (really badly) that matched the chair in the dumpster. They are both super heavy and sturdy, infact she said they came from her friends bar. Now I don't particularly love these chairs but, they were free and I'm sure I can do something with them.
Next, the last week I was walking to a friends house and turned to look at some townhouses that were being resided. I happened to look next to the townhouses dumpter that was under a covered shed thing. In the dumpster I noticed a mid century modern chair leg sticking out. My heart skipped a beat. I strolled over to check it out and saw that not only was the chair in excellent shape but, there was a matching couch too! For those of you who don't know I already have a matching set of similar chairs but, I don't have a couch, so cool. I think they will need a little sprusing up and some cushions and we're good to go. Then low and sitting next to the couch was a cool old fiberglass school chair. I hurried to my friends home and tried to call Brett afraid someone might come scoop up my finds. Of course I couldn't get ahold of him so later that night I sent him over and he picked up the couch and chair. I forgot to tell him about the school chair so went over the next morning to pick it up. It was still there and sitting next to it was the best old kitchen step stool. I remember my grandma having one of these and I'm sure most of your grandmas did. Unfortunately the original vinyl is torn up on the seat but, it will be easy to put new on. The kids and I pulled out the hose and cleaned everything up. I can't wait to get to work on them. I will post pictures when I finish.
Lastly (sorry this is getting long) Brett came home and asked me to look outside and tell him if I thought some stuff in our neighbors truck was garbage. I told him to go ask because inside was a bike trailer. I have wanted a double bike trailer for awhile to tote the girls in. He went and asked and came home with a newer but, disgusting bike trailer. It had apparently had oil spilled on it and it was a mess, as the pictures show. I scrubbed it several times with hot soapy water, vinigar and baking soda. It so far looks pretty good. The plastic looks brand new but, the fabric is still holding onto some oil. I hope it comes clean but, if not I'm only out a little bit of time.
So, there are all my exciting finds. Maybe you'll get inspired to do some dumpster diving of your own.

my grandma had that same step stool! Serious score on that one. Since they are at target for an outrageous price. Love it all. I can't wait to see the after pics. And I'm so happy to see some updates on your blog. Can't wait for the next family reunion!
